Sleep is Essential to Have an Accurate Memory

A lack of sleep could lead people to have memories that didn’t happen, as reported by a study in the Journal of Sleep Research. The study focused on how a lack of sleep affects memory retrieval. For the study, two groups of adolescents were assigned different hours to sleep: one five hours and one eight hours. They kept this pattern for a week, then they were given memory tests. Overall, not getting enough sleep was a main contributor to false memory retrieval. Scientists believe this is because the encoding and retrieval of memories is weakened. Research has shown adolescents should try to get 8 to 10 hours of sleep.
