What Is The Connection Between Obesity And Stress?

Studies show obesity can impact your physical health. But might it also impact your mental health? Obese people are more stressed out than non-obese people, according to a study in the Occupation, Participation and Health journal. The researchers examined whether the relationship between life balance and perceived stress is different for adults who are obese. When scientists studied 2,338 individuals, they found that those with obesity presented higher stress levels due to the fact that they were not meeting their needs for maintaining healthy lifestyles such as having positive relationships, being challenged, and creating a positive identity. The scientists aren’t sure if obesity causes stress. But they say that obese people who want to lower their stress levels should engage in activities.
